Transfer News LIVE: Liverpool, Arsenal and Man Utd gossip plus Matthijs de Ligt latest
There were some big transfer deals done on Wednesday and the action is hotting up as top clubs look to strengthen
United make move for Dembele
Manchester United have made their opening offer to Lyon to acquire striker Moussa Dembele.
According to Goal France, the bid of more than €40m has been made for the 22-year-old, who only joined Lyon in August last year.
Dembele has scored 23 goals in 51 appearances in all competitions last campaign, and could replace Lukaku who might be heading to Inter Milan.
Matthijs de Ligt 'drops huge Man Utd transfer hint' on Instagram
Ajax wonderkid Matthijs de Ligt appears certain to complete a transfer away from the Amsterdam-based giants in the next few months.
The only problem is no one knows where he’ll end up.
Barcelona remain the favourites to sign the young Holland international. The Catalan giants have already secured the services of his former team-mate Frenkie de Jong.
Barcelona have also held talks with De Ligt’s agent Mino Raiola, according to reports from Spain, but so far no transfer has transpired.
Liverpool are another team who have been linked with the 19-year-old Ajax captain, who guided his side to a Champions League semi-final this season.
The Reds already home De Ligt’s international centre-back partner Virgil van Dijk - with whom he shares a great on-the-pitch bond - and there is speculation he could join the former Southamptonman at Anfield.
But again, a transfer has yet to materialise.
Manchester United were originally linked with De Ligt but cooled their interest on the advice of scout Marcel Bout, who claimed the youngster’s weight could balloon.
The Red Devils then failed to secure Champions League football for next season - something that has put to bed their hopes of signing Jadon Sancho.
It is feared that a lack of Champions League football will also result in De Ligt snubbing a move to United.
But fans of the Old Trafford club have spotted something that has given them hope on social media, and many believe a transfer could be on the cards.
Rio Ferdinand uploaded an image of the 2008 Manchester United squad winning the Champions League to his Instagram page.
And interestingly De Ligt has given the image a ‘like’.
Now of course this means very, very little. Footballers regularly ‘like’ the achievements of fellow professionals on social media.
But some United fans have taken this as De Ligt dropping a hint that he likes the idea of a transfer to Old Trafford.
Wilson to leave United
James Wilson will leave Manchester United this summer at the end of his contract, Press Association Sport understands.
The 23-year-old burst onto the scene with a brace against Hull on his senior debut in 2014 but has failed to kick on from there.
Wilson spent last season on loan at Aberdeen and is set to leave Old Trafford when his contract expires this summer.
Norwich and Sheffield United after Sluga
Newly-promoted Norwich City and Sheffield United are reportedly leading the race to sign HNK Rijeka goalkeeper Simon Sluga.
Goal reports that the Croatia international would be available this summer for £1.8million.
Derby County, Dinamo Zagreb and Hertha Berlin have also expressed their interest in the 26-year-old.
Norwich have also been linked to a move for Liverpool’s back-up keeper Simon Mignolet.
Real Madrid face 'traffic jam' of departures
Real Madrid could face a ‘traffic jam’ over their departures this summer with many players reluctant to leave.
Keylor Navas, Dani Ceballos and Marcos Llorente have all been linked to moves away from the Bernabeu, while Gareth Bale seems to be on the way out.
Bale has expressed his willingness to see out the remainder of his contract if Real can’t move him on, and Jesus Vallejo, Sergio Reguilon and Mariano Diaz all face uncertain futures.
But according to Diario Sport, Los Blancos will face a logjam as many of these players have no intention of leaving.
Alonso future uncertain amid Real interest
Chelsea full-back Marcos Alonso has hinted his future may lie away from Stamford Bridge amid interest from Real Madrid.
The Spanish defender came through the Madrid youth teams before moving to Bolton Wanderers in 2010.
Reports have emerged this week linking him to a return to the Bernabeu, and Alonso did nothing to downplay the rumours.
When asked by the Evening Standard if he is definitely staying at Chelsea, Alonso replied: “I am very happy here but we will see what happens this summer.
“There is always talk (like this). Is it a compliment? Yes. It means I’m doing well if other teams are trying to get in touch.
“But first of all I’m focussing on the final. I am very happy to have four more years here and hopefully I will stay many more years here.”
Rodriguez looking for new challenge
Colombia star James Rodriguez will be looking for a new club this summer, according to Sky Germany.
Rodriguez’s two-year loan spell at Bayern Munich from Real Madrid is coming to an end and although Bayern have the option of signing him for £37million, Rodriguez has told his agent Jorge Mendes that he is ready to move on.
Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United have all expressed interest in bringing in the midfielder.
Arsenal send scouts to watch Sampdoria pair
As Unai Emery prepares for the Europa League final against Chelsea, his scouts are preparing for a busy summer.
The Arsenal manager has asked his scouts to watch Sampdoria pair Joachim Andersen and Dennis Praet when they play Juventus on Sunday.
It is not the first time Arsenal - who signed Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria last summer - have watched defender Andersen and midfielder Praet.
But according to Gazette dello Sport, Arsenal will face competition for Andersen’s signature from Tottenham.
Napoli make Clyne approach
Italian side Napoli have reportedly made an approach to sign Liverpool defender Nathaniel Clyne.
Napoli are weighing up a 15m move for the right-back - who has been on loan at Bournemouth since January.
According to Goal, Napoli are in the market for a right-back, having already been linked with a move for Tottenham’s Kieran Trippier.
Lukaku is Conte's priority
Antonio Conte will make Romelu Lukaku his transfer priority if he takes the Inter Milan job.
Conte is the favourite to take the reigns at Inter this summer.
Lukaku is one of the players that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is considering offloading this summer - but United would want about £75million for his signature.
